It situated at an altitude of 75 meters on sea level, and has a population of over 12,000 inhabitants.Downtown you can visit a historic market twice a week week (on Wednesday and Sunday), and many shops that surround the square. The castle Bolognini dominates the old town. Built in the XIIIth century,  it was transformed into a summer residence of Regina della Scala, wife of Barnabò Visconti, who in 1383 built the Tower Mastra. In 1452 with the passage of the power of the Ducato of Milan the Visconti Sforza family, the feudo and the castle were donated from Francesco Sforza to Michele Matteo Bolognini, who received on that occasion in the title Earl. The castle is still the most prestigious building in the city, and is one of the best preserved of Lombardy.
